Abstract
Description
The geometric and structural design of the pavement and storm drainage of the second street and third avenue in Pueblo Nuevo, Puerto Cortés was carried out with the objective of promoting the expansion of the road network under the Municipal Development Plan. Fundamental variables such as the topography of the site, soil properties under AASHTO regulations, geometric design based on the physical characteristics of the terrain, structural design under the PCA-84 method according to the analysis of vehicular traffic and the design of storm drainage were considered. A 7.00m roadway and two opposing lanes with a lane width of 3.50m were geometrically designed. The minimum slope used was 0.21% and the maximum of 0.50%, the pending drops occurred due to the existence of inhabited houses along all the streets and avenues of the neighborhood, the prevention of greater cutting volumes and the operation of the storm drain. The simple concrete pavement with transfer rods was designed with a 10cm-thick subbase structure and a 18cm-thick hydraulic concrete slab with a compressive strength of 4000 PSI. The open channels were designed with a width of 0.60m, a height of 0.50m and channel walls with concrete blocks of 0.15m, with a slope of 1%.
